Project Snapshot {Week 8}

http://www.edsnapshots.com/2013/12/project-snapshot.html

I'm joining Pam for Project Snapshot Mondays.  The goal of this project is to capture a memory from the past week, either with a camera, words, or both.  Time passes in the blink of an eye and this will create a collection of treasured memories from throughout the year.

My Snapshot

This photo is actually from our hike while camping for Valentine's weekend, but it seems like every hike in this state looks the same: flat, scrubby and dull.
This past weekend, we explored our new favorite park a bit further by joining one of their extended hikes.  I purposefully left the camera at home since it was raining, which I just knew guaranteed our critter count would be high.

The volunteers who led our hike told us about a pack of coyotes they'd heard on a night hike the evening before and sure enough, we saw their tracks (and scat) all over the trail right off the bat.  Aside from those, some deer tracks, and armadillo holes, the wildlife seemed to be finding cover from the rain and not out traipsing around in it like a bunch of drenched loonies and so we really didn't see too much else.

We heard several birds: catbirds, barred owls, and bald eagles and did see a hawk chase an anhinga into the water, which was kind of fun.

The description of the hike made it sound like it would be long and physically taxing.  When we joined the group waiting to depart, the leader dubiously asked whether we were up for the trek and whether "the child" would be able to handle it (I was wearing Gv).  I assured him we'd be fine and had to laugh at the end, because we probably only hiked about 4 miles over 2 1/2 hours.

It was pleasant to get outside so early in the day and just spend some time in nature, though.

What was your favorite memory from this past week?  I'd love to hear about it!  Either leave a comment below or email me at lisahealy (at) outlook (dot) com.
