Welcome back to Latticed Learning!  This year, we're continuing to learn while we play - repeating many of our favorites from last year while adding in all sorts of new activities as well.

This day's post is devoted to our weekly Bible stories - some weeks have more activities than others, but each lesson will help your little one grow closer to God!

Read the Bible

Pages 52-70 in this Bible and 51-57 in this one

Read a Little More

We think books are the best around here, so it's always fun to discover great new titles. We didn't have any books that matched up with this week's Bible story, but I did find these:

Esau & Jacob

Extreme Adventures with God: Isaac, Esau & Jacob

Sing Some Songs

I didn't really know of any great songs for this week's story, but then I came across this that even included the sheet music, so it gave me the chance to tickle the ivories a bit as we learned it.

Watch Some Videos

This short video reiterates the Bible story in animation:

This one is good, too:

Play and Create

We repeated lots of things we did last year to learn about Isaac, Jacob & Esau, then added in a few new activities.

I printed out this picture, cut a brown pom pom in half and then let Gv glue the "hair" all over Jacob's arms and back before she colored the page.

I also created a mini book for this story - you can download your own copy for free here.

We ate lentil stew.  Last year I tried a new recipe that was supposed to be close to they type of stew Jacob might have really served Isaac that included lots of barley, but this year, I just served this one that we love.

We also did a few activities that were new to us, like making this Jacob's ladder using craft sticks:

The little blue stickers are supposed to be angels. We didn't have any angel stickers, so we went with these skating reward stickers instead.

Then we made Jacob & Esau paper bag puppets to act out the story with:

These were completely Gv's creation. I merely explained what we were doing and then made sure she had plenty of cotton (from vitamin bottles) to be Esau's "fur."

Finally, we created goatskin "sleeves" to wear, using a toilet paper tube and brown pipe cleaners:

Cut the toilet paper tube lengthwise so it will fit on the arm like a sleeve.  Twist several pipe cleaners together and then wrap them around the sleeve to make a fuzzy arm.
