I was intrigued when I first heard about this lift-the-flap title, as it's not in the typical board-book format that I had expected:

The cover reminds me of a fun scrapbook, including illustrations that look like stickers, ribbons, photographs, and even an envelope!

I wasn't sure what I would find inside:

It's not your typical cover!

Once Gv and I cracked it open, we discovered 14 stories centered around female characters in the Bible. These range from "major players" (Eve, Esther, Mary) to the interesting perspectives of lesser-known gals like Naaman's servant girl.

Each 2-page spread includes a narrative from the Bible story, a related Bible verse, colorful illustrations, and a unique flap containing "Your Love Letter from God."

I've only seen flaps to lift in board books before, not picture books like this one!

There's a space for you to fill in your special girl's name, which really personalizes this aspect of the book even more.

Apparently even God likes to use stickers in his correspondence!

Because of this feature, I feel this book makes an excellent devotional for young girls.

Each story communicates a different, special message to a precious girl in your life.

  • You are good.
  • Trust God.
  • God is your friend.
  • You are strong.
  • You are priceless.
  • You will always be safe with God.
  • Time spent with Jesus is always a good choice.

Not only will this picture book fill girls' hearts with the wonder of the Lord, it will remind them of the bond they can share with God, just like these ladies of the Bible did.

The final page of this book adds yet another interactive layer to this book.

What a neat item to include in this book!

Here, readers are invited to compose their own love letter to God.

What will your young lady choose to share?

Gv is a bit young for this feature, but she has already asked when she can write her letter -- I just have to decide whether I should let her dictate what she wants to say while I write, or make her wait until she's able to write the words herself.

Any thoughts?

What I call the "scrapbook theme" continues throughout the book - see the photo of Deborah, along with the envelope?

Even though this book is visually appealing enough for tiny tots, I feel the subject matter is most appropriate for girls aged preschool through elementary school.

It would make a wonderful gift book for a special girl in your life -- not just for holidays, but also important church milestones or even as a sibling gift when a new baby arrives (what better time for a gal to be reminded that she's special and that God loves her?)

Pick up your own copy of this great little picture book here and introduce your Little Miss to a few of the more noteworthy females of the Bible!

  1. I love the idea of using this as a gift for a church milestone. It's such an interesting idea for a child's book. I could see a young girl saving this and looking back on it when having her own children. 💜
